In this intensive course participants will become acquainted with the Science Across the World programme. They will acquire specific knowledge about Internet applications and resources relevant for interschool communication. The course will provide them with knowledge and skills that they can use in their classroom practice.

Applicant Profile
This course is intended for newly qualified and practicing science and foreign language teachers interested in the possibilities of teaching and learning in a European context by using the Internet for their classroom practice. The Science Across the World programme offers most materials for students aged 10-15, therefore, this course is best for teachers teaching or dealing with this age group.
A basic knowledge of computers is necessary: participants should at least be familiar with Windows platforms and word-processors. Before, during and after the course we will use an Electronic Learning Environment (Blackboard). Using this ELO doesn't need preceding knowledge or skills.

Language of Instruction: English.
Location: This course will be held in the building of the Graduate School of Teaching and Learning (ILO), University of Amsterdam (UvA), Wibautstraat 2-4, in the city centre of Amsterdam.
Computers: For this course, only the use of Windows computers is supported, there will be no facilities available for Mac users.
Fee: € 750,- (including course materials, welcome drink, access to the cultural evening programme on the AMSU, coffee/tea breaks on Monday to Friday).
Lunch & Course Dinner (Optional): € 75,- for 5 common lunches (Monday to Friday) and € 35,- for the Course Dinner on Thursday evening.
Please specify if you wish to participate in the common lunches and/or Course Dinner, either on your (pre)registration form or when confirming being awarded a Comenius 2.2/Grundtvig 3 grant.

Registration: Confirmed participants are expected to register between 15.00 PM and 17.00 PM on Sunday, July 2, 2006 at the building Felix Meritis, located at Keizersgracht 324 in Amsterdam. Registration will be followed by a welcome drink.
Course Leaders
Lida Schoen (Netherlands) - Educational Consultant; Science Across the World.
Dr. Lida Schoen graduated as a chemist at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). She worked as a teacher trainer and during the last 12 years as an educational consultant, mainly for international projects. She is a team member and trainer of the Science Across the World programme and titular member of the Committee on Chemistry Education (CCE) of the International Union of Pure & Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Her main interest is communicating about science: public understanding.
Schoen was already involved in many Comenius 2.2 courses, gained experience in Comenius school partnerships and now chairs the Young Ambassadors for Chemistry (YAC) project in transient countries (already stops in Taiwan, Argentina, Siberia, Korea, and in the near future in South Africa and Mauritius), together with Keith Kelly. Keith P. Kelly - Educational Consultant.
Keith Kelly is a freelance education consultant based in Bulgaria. He has an undergraduate degree in Modern Languages and a PGCE in French, Russian and German from Bristol University. He then took a Masters degree in English Language Education at Manchester University. He is an experienced teacher and teacher trainer, a team member of Science Across the World, and an Associate Tutor for the Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE). Keith is also a founder and coordinator of the Forum for Across the Curriculum Teaching (FACT). From 1999-2003 Keith was coordinator of the English Across the Curriculum project for the British Council in Bulgaria where he worked in and
with bilingual schools around Bulgaria and the region. Keith, along with John Clegg, is co-author of the CLIL MA Module for NILE and Leeds Metropolitain
University. He has been working as a freelance education consultant since August 2003 on education projects mainly focusing on the teaching of content

Ton (Anton) G.M. Koet (Netherlands) - Teacher Trainer; Graduate School of Teaching & Learning (ILO), University of Amsterdam (UvA).
Ton Koet is a teacher trainer at the Graduate School of Teaching & Learning (ILO), University of Amsterdam (UvA). He is particularly interested in the teaching of pronunciation and in the application of speech technology in language teaching.
