The Amsterdam International Medical Summer School (AIMSS) organizes the course Health Informatics. The course highlights the role of the doctor in controlling the impact of informatics on the health care sector. At the end of the course participants should be able to understand the scope of potential changes informatics tools may bring to the health care field, to critically appraise the pros and cons of these tools in fundamentally changing daily working practices and to play a key role in optimizing the design of information systems for the health care sector.

Advanced students in medicine, biology and health sciences with knowledge of biomedical and clinical sciences as well as recent graduates.

Certificate: Certificate of attendance on completion of the course.

Location: Academic Medical Center (AMC), University of Amsterdam (UvA). Meibergdreef 15, 1105 AZ, Amsterdam. The AMC can be reached in 25 minutes from Central Station Amsterdam by subway, direction Gein, stop Holendrecht.

Fee: Applications received before or on Monday, May 15, 2006 € 650,- / after May 15, 2006 € 750,-.
(Course fee includes educational programme, accommodation*, public transport in Amsterdam, welcome drink, social & cultural programme**, closing buffet.

Accommodation: Please note that at this late stage we can not guarantee that accommodation will be available.

** Social & Cultural Programme

A variety of cultural and social activities is offered, such as sight-seeing tours, visit to a museum, concerts, theatre shows and a boat tour through the canals of Amsterdam. The AMC is also known for its large collection of Dutch modern art after 1964.

Programme

The course includes series of lectures, hands-on experience, demonstrations and workshops on topics, such as the computerized patient record, telemedicine, bio-informatics, health care systems throughout the world, decision making in medicine and support tools. A lively social and cultural programme in and outside Amsterdam is part of the program. More detailed information will follow.

Appended Terms & Conditions

Written cancellations received before Thursday, June 1, 2006 will be refunded, 15% administrative expenses will be deducted for administrative expenses.
No refunds will be made for cancellations received after June 1, 2006 or for non-attendance. In case of cancellation the course materials will be forwarded in any case.
The Amsterdam-Maastricht Summer University reserves the right to cancel a course due to unforeseen circumstances without any liability for damages arising. In that case the participation sum, if already paid, will be refunded in full.
All participants in the courses are bound by the Board's Standard Conditions, which will be sent to you upon request.
