Biobusiness PhD Summer School 2011 (medic 3)

The third edition of a unique new summer school for PhDs students, postdocs and Master students to learn about business in life sciences. Knowledge of the business field and the current market plays an important role for all researchers in the rapidly growing life sciences area, but especially those who are looking for career opportunities in the industry. The aim of the Biobusiness PhD summer school is to increase the understanding of the international field of biomedical business and to help you find the best next step in your career.

In this interactive 8 days course you will learn the basics and backgrounds of the biomedical industry and are introduced to several international companies in the region through organised site visits. Specialized guest speakers are giving lectures and are available for individual contact with the participants.

The primary target group is: PhD students (in their final years), postdocs and Master students in life sciences areas.

- A recent Curriculum Vitae,
- A copy of the university diploma

Language of Instruction: English.

Certificate/Credits: Certificate of attendance on completion of the course.

Course Fee: € 850,--: The course fee includes:  course material, social programme and two diners! It does not include accommodation.

Speakers: The programme organisers invited many executives from various positions in biomedical companies, investors, governmental agencies and universities. The speakers' names will be confirmed a.s.a.p.

The course program covers main topics like product development, patents & licenses, from start-up to IPO, biopharma business models, new market opportunities, pharmacopolicy, pharmacoeconomics, business ethics, entrepreneurship and emerging diseases.
The course includes many company visits.

Registration: Sunday 3rd of July 2011. Exact time and location will be announced here soon.

Location: Academic Medical Center (AMC), University of Amsterdam. Meibergdreef 15, 1105 AZ, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Moreover, the program also includes visits to Utrecht and Leiden.  The AMC can be reached in 25 minutes from Central Station Amsterdam by subway, direction Gein, stop Holendrecht.

Social Programme: A variety of cultural and social activities is offered through the cultural pass, such as sight-seeing tours, visit to a museum, concerts, theatre shows and a boat tour through the canals of Amsterdam. The AMC is also known for its large collection of Dutch modern art after 1964.

Appended Terms & Conditions
Applications are subject to a selection process. From the moment the applicant is informed s/he is selected by the AMSU Office, s/he becomes "Participant" and from that moment the course fee is due to be paid. 

Cancellations must be made in writing. If a cancellation is received before the AMSU inform the applicant s/he is selected no cancellation fee has to be paid. If cancellation is received after the selection message from the AMSU Office, 15% of the course fee is due to be paid as cancellation fee to cover administrative costs. If cancellation is received later than 14 days before the beginning of the course the "Participant" must pay a cancellation fee corresponding to 100% of the course fee.

The Amsterdam-Maastricht Summer University reserves the right to cancel a course due to unforeseen circumstances without any liability for damages arising. In that case the participation sum, if already paid, will be refunded in full.

All participants in the courses are bound by the Board's Standard Conditions, which will be sent to you upon request.
